The
Eleventh National
Deaneries Conference will be held at the Hayes Conference Centre at Swanwick
from Friday 17 October - Sunday 19 October 2008.
The
theme for the Conference this year is Ways to realise your Deanery's
potential
Planning for the Eleventh National Deaneries Conference
is well underway and as with past conferences will not only explore the
challenges and opportunities facing deaneries there will be ideas and
resources to equip us for the task.
Mission POSSIBLE!!!
… … is as much about urban and inner
cities as it is about rural situations. How can rural Deaneries inform
urban and inner city when it comes to mission and ministry and visa versa.
How should Deaneries respond? Whilst some issues or problems are unique to
rural areas many are the same as those experienced in urban and inner city
areas.
Drawing on the synergy that links rural, urban and inner
city the key note speaker Dr Stuart Burgess, the Government’s Rural
Advocate, will outline the challenges that need to be addressed and the
central role that can be played by Deanery networks in all situations.
Other speakers include Rt. Revd Gordon Mursell Bishop of
Stafford thinking creatively and looking outside the square at outreach
and mission and Caroline Forster, Deputy Chief Executive, Adventure
Capital Fund looking at how to finance initiatives and successfully access
funding.
This year there will be also be practice help and how to
workshops. Subjects include Evangelism in the Deanery context; Engaging
with youth in the Deanery; Ecumenical opportunities, Inter-faith
relationships; developing urban and rural projects and services; and using
Hospitable space.
This
is a popular bi-annual conference firmly established as one of the events
to share and learn from one another’s experiences. The 2008 National
Deaneries Conference looks set to equal if not better the last conference.
