Planning for the Thirteenth National Deaneries Conference
is well underway and as with past conferences will not only explore the
challenges and opportunities facing deaneries there will be ideas and
resources to equip us for the task.
The conference will explore and share ways in which Deaneries can contribute to future patterns of mission and ministry
The Shape of things to come
We need to re-shape or re-imagine the Church's ministry for the century coming, so as to make sure that there is a growing and sustainable Christian witness in every local community.
Archbishop Rowan Williams;
Archbishop of Canterbury;
November 2010
The Deanery has a key role in the vision to re-shape the Church and achieve a sustainable Christian presence in every community.
How do we transform the way our Deaneries operate to help with the development and delivery of the strategy to re-imagine and re-energise ministry in the Church?
The conference will hear from people who are doing and have done this, and discuss with them and others how Deaneries can contribute to the mission and ministry of the church of the future.
Deaneries are an established and integral resource: essential in the furtherance of mission and managing allocating resources.
How can Deaneries act as a significant, strategic focus for mission and ministry?
How will we equip the Deanery to reshape, re-imagine and re-energise ministry in the Church of England so that it is equipped both to grow the church in every community and contribute to 'the common good'.
Whether you are new and just starting out at this Deanery thing or an experienced hand, this conference is an opportunity to explore future possibilities, learn from and share experiences, and build confidence to enable the Deanery be a key component in the delivery of the vision of the Church of the future.
Who should attend the conference
Whether you are new and just starting out at this Deanery thing or an experienced hand, this conference is an opportunity to learn from and share experiences, explore future possibilities and build confidence to realise the potential of the Deanery.
This
is a popular bi-annual conference firmly established as one of the events
to share and learn from one another’s experiences. The 2012 National
Deaneries Conference looks set to equal if not better the last conference
in 2010.
Whilst the conference is primarily for Rural/Area Deans
and Lay Chairs, other deanery synod members and those who are interested
in and see the work of the Deanery as important to growing the Kingdom
also attend.
Archdeacons and other diocesan staff who are developing
patterns of ministry based on the deanery are regulars at the conference.
They see the National Deaneries Conference as an important gathering to
explore and discuss Deanery opportunities.
Generally those attending the conference are roughly
equally divided between clergy and lay.
